However beautiful a prayer cap is, it will not be comfortable if it is the wrong size: too small and it squeezes, too big and it slips. The first step to the right cap is knowing your head measurement.
How to measure your head
- Take a soft tape measure.
- Wrap it around your head just above the eyebrows and over the tops of the ears.
- Keep it comfortable, with room for one finger, and note the measurement in centimetres.
- Measure twice to be sure.
Adult head circumference is usually between 54 and 62 centimetres.
Our sizes: 52, 54, 56, 58 and 60
Our velvet takke come in sizes 52, 54, 56, 58 and 60. After measuring your head in centimetres, choose the closest size; if you are between two sizes, choose the larger one. A velvet takke is structured and does not stretch, so the right size matters.
Size by type of cap
- Knitted cap: It stretches, so it is comfortable across nearby sizes.
- Embroidered or structured cap: It does not stretch, so an exact fit matters; if you are between two sizes, choose the larger one.
- Cotton cap: It stretches slightly; keep in mind that it may shrink a little after the first wash.
Does it fit well?
- It should leave no mark on the forehead or temples.
- It should not slip when you bow your head.
- It should not feel uncomfortable above the ears.
Sizes for gifts
If you are buying a velvet takke for someone whose size you do not know, try to find out their head size from someone close to them. For gifts in quantity, a few takke in different sizes, such as 54, 56 and 58, make things easier.
Trying a cap on always gives the best result. At Alanya Takkeleri you can try the navy and black velvet takke in sizes 52–60, or ask about your size on WhatsApp in advance.
